Not questioning any judgement here, but how long was VS given to reply? The OP was not long ago, and it's not as if we never miss notifications or take brief breaks from Jalopnik. I respect Matt's decision, and I have no doubt that you have taken the matter into consideration (he does, after all, have the experience here)—however, I am still going to wait to see what VictoriousSecret has to say before I form an opinion about his actions. Even if he saw it within the past 10 hours or so, we all have our bad days and say things we regret, and sometimes it takes a few hours to think of what to say and not feel guilty.

Of every single borderline terrible thing I've ever posted, that is what crossed the line?

Is dismissing someone who I just had no patience to reply to a state sanctioned crime? Yes, I am one of the most childish asshats here when I'm feeling up for it, but a basic feature that you so highly touted in Kinja is being used and now its a problem?

Am I not allowed to perfectly and bluntly say what I thought? Yes, hindsight is 20/20 and I sure as hell should've worded it in a way that is much more reasonable and even helpful, in a way you all know I'm damn well capable of doing.

And why the public shaming? You simply needed to unfollow me. You could've made a reply to the comment stating so. Whats the point of this? I don't know if I should feel ridiculed or amazed that I warrant an entire post on this.

Do we know go into it for every single person who flips the lid and gets unfollowed? Or is it because this is Hoonigan and someone brought it to your attention?

God knows I've gone semi-stupid over plenty of things and said some pretty damning things, but come on? Of all things, this?

You want admission of guilt? Yes, I was a douchebag. I'm much better than what my recent posting has shown. I will never back down from saying what I really feel on a matter and if that was just too far then yes, I did so without realizing not everyone will follow my school of bluntness and political incorrectness.

VS then made another comment making fun of the OP's dismissed comment.

Basically, Matt did what he did because the front page is where discussions are held, not a place to stand on a soapbox and dismiss other people's comments because you don't like it, especially when you were acting like a dick in the first place.

I don't, dude. I was just trying to help you get out of the gray. We know you well enough, and your comments have become a Jalopnik tradition in a way. I just don't want to take a position that will appear as if I am being unreasonable or too skewed in my views. It is a small matter IMO, and you make good points, but ain't nobody gonna argue with Matt. This was far from necessary to post on here, I agree. It just kinda sucks that this happened. Anyways, you won't be labeled on Oppo based on just one post, so I would just let time pass and not let it bother you, as frustrating as this may be. Sometimes you can BS your way through these situations, acting as if you feel remorseful or saying there were events that caused you to act in a certain manner etc., even if there weren't. The more honorable option would to express you really feel about the matter, which you have done. Either way, this whole thing makes little sense to me. Maybe I'm just understanding the full extent of the situation.

That is how I understand it. When I was taken out of the gray, I noticed that one of my followers was Jalopnik.

I haven't really followed all this, but for what it's worth I don't think Jalopnik over-reacted, because all they did was unfollow you. And mention it on Oppo, yes, to make a point: guess they must think you're respected around here or something ;)

But the point is, it's only a fucking internet forum. Nothing that happens on here matters in any real sense. Even if they come down a bit hard and you lose some internet points undeservedly, do you actually care if you stop and think about it?

It's not life and death. It's not worth thinking about.

Not sure how that works on Oppo. I think one of the mods needs to do the following/unfollowing. I did just get a notice that I was being followed bu Oppo. But I have been an author for some time. Me no get it.

Well, here's how I understand it:

Ballaban posted some pics of the 2015 Mustang them the most badass photos yet. VS harshly critiqued them (as they were super photoshopped), and the photographer wrote a long and elaborate reply. VS "dismissed" said reply and has been publicly shamed by Hardibro, talking about how he will now be in the gray comments section.

So the Jalopnik staff got upset because VS hit dismiss instead of responding to the photog's comments, now relegating VS to the grey area? Basically VS was penalized for using the dismiss feature?

I know where the Mustang thread is, but is the public shaming still up?

Also, that's pretty rough VS. Seems that this situation got overblown. I used to be a moderator at Motor Trend and I do not miss that job.

Same. There is an extension cord in the background, whole thing is badly shopped. As for the "elaborate reply," the response to solely VS was really nothing more than sarcastic crap throwing. VS is 10 times the photographer this smarmy kid will be. The photographer's original reply is at the top of the gray. He claims VS is "bad at arguing" lol

I don't think that anything VS said was ban worthy, or whatever you want to call his punishment. It's just silly forum crap, it happens. MT had shit loads of drama. Oppo doesn't even start to come close.
